WHAT: Florence Night Out 2019
FLORENCE NIGHT OUT (FNO) returns Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 5:30 – 8:30pm for a Florence village block party! New this year, a portion of Main Street will be closed off during the entire event. Designed to appeal to audiences of all ages, this street festival will include: Mobile Art Box installations, open art studios, art openings, live music, dance lessons, modern and cultural dance performances, poetry readings, short film/video screenings, theater performance, art demos, family-friendly activities, extended hours/special menus at local restaurants, and more. No matter the medium, FNO brings out the best of the Valley’s creative community.
This year, FNO is partnering with Friends of Northampton Trails and Greenways to plan a bike ride from Pulaski Park that culminates in the heart of the festivities. Meanwhile, The Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition (MassBike) will offer a bike valet for visitors arriving to the party via conveniently situated bike routes. The event aims to draw 2000 or more participants and visitors to Florence center. Florence artist and lead organizer Donnabelle Casis is co-curating a new series of Mobile Art Box installations with Amanda Herman, a multimedia artist and education curator at the University Museum of Contemporary Art. FNO has once again partnered with Tony Gleason, Florence resident and owner of DIY Mobile Box, to have four “Mobile Art Boxes” (MABs). MABs are 8’x8’x16’ pop-up temporary art spaces that will house interactive, multimedia installations by artists Home Body, Jonathan Mark Jackson, Bibiana Medkova, and Angela Zammarelli. Look for MABs throughout the village. As with the first FNO in 2013, Pivot Media will unveil a new mural!
