In this class you will learn the basics of screenwriting, with a focus on tailoring your screenplay to make an independent film. We will discuss story structure, what makes a story work, characters and dialogue, and the next steps for your script. Each week we will study a different script and analyze it in the context of that week’s lesson. We will have in-class exercises and short (fun!) assignments. This is a class for beginners with all levels welcome. Anyone can write a movie – all you need is a notebook, a love of film, and an open mind.

Thursdays starting 4/23 2pm-3pm

While much of our online content is currently available for free, we are also supporting our working artists by sharing online classes they are offering for a fee. As a small nonprofit committed to serving our community, the Northampton Center for the Arts also needs help so that we can continue to provide affordable space for artists, performers, and educators after this crisis is over.
