The second annual Northampton Public Arts Festival will be held from Tuesday June 23rd through Wednesday July 1st, with invited artists Kim CarlinoBelowKeySteph BurrRamiro Davaro-ComasLena McCarthySabrina Dorsainvil and Silvia Lopez Chavez. The artists will be painting cement barriers on Main Street, Strong Avenue, and Market Street that provide space for outdoor dining in the streets of the City. From spray paint, to acrylic paint, these artists will be bringing all kinds of mediums to beautify these cement blocks with unique pattern designs, characters, and much more!

It is the second year for this unique event, which is aimed at promoting public arts through live mural painting. Due to Covid-19, the format of the festival has changed to avoid crowds, and to respect social distancing orders. The festival will bring local and nationally recognized artists together to create beautiful public art for the city of Northampton and the Pioneer Valley.

We invite the public to come by during these days, to say a face-masked wearing, socially distanced hi to the artists, take photos, and enjoy the creation of new public art. Most of the artists will be painting from Friday July 26th – Sunday July 28th, one artist will be painting from Tuesday June 23rd through Saturday June 27th, and one artist will be painting Monday, June 29th-Wednesday, July 1st. The flyer has details of the painting days for the artists.

The Northampton Arts Council was invited by the Mayor and the City of Northampton Planning & Sustainability office to offer seven regional artists an opportunity to paint the 48 cement barriers, each that provide space for outdoor dining in the streets of the City. The cement barriers, owned by the DPW of Northampton and already primed by Planning & Sustainability and community volunteers, will be in place until November, 2020. This project is made possible with support from the Massachusetts Cultural CouncilCity of NorthamptonDaily Hampshire GazetteThe Hotel Northampton, and the Downtown Northampton Association.
