Dianna Cohen is a visual artist and the co-founder and CEO of Plastic Pollution Coalition, a global coalition to address the pervasive problem of plastic pollution and its toxic impacts on humans, animals, waterways and oceans, and the environment. She was inspired to co-found PPC by her work as an artist – her chosen material is the ubiquitous plastic bag combined with thread. Dianna will speak on the connection between her medium which she uses to make 2D and 3D artwork, sculptures, and installations – and inspiring conversation and action around the issue of plastic pollution, alternatives, and solutions. At a time when sustainability is an international concern, Cohen asks us to rethink our relationship with plastic and consider the material as a valued resource instead of waste.
Presented in collaboration with the Office of Student Engagement.
