Forbes Library will show the film Going Blind in March. There will be two screenings: one on Friday, March 8 at 1:00 PM and another on Wednesday March 27 at 6:30 PM. Both films will be in the Community Room at Forbes Library and will be shown with audio description for the benefit of those with low vision.
Going Blind is a 2010 documentary about coping with vision loss by Peabody-award winning writer and director Joseph F. Lovett. In it Lovett interweaves the stories of everyday people with different levels of vision loss and the story of his own struggle with glaucoma. The film is meant to increase public awareness of vision loss and low vision and addresses prevention, detection and treatment of vision problems as well as showing how folks with vision loss can continue to live active and full lives.
The March 8th screening is part of an ongoing series on accessibility and assistive technology run by local low-vision educator and advocate Rick Ely. Mr. Ely will answer audience questions after the film.
The March 27th screening is part of the Resistance Film Series of the Resistance Center and the Northampton Committee to Stop the Wars and will be followed by by a panel discussion about activism on behalf of blind people and people with disabilities in general.
