A night of harmonies with singer-songwriter Jennifer Kimball
Thursday May 25th, 2017. 7:00pm
CLICK Workspace, 9 ½ Market Street, Northampton.
On Thursday, May 25th, the CLICK event space will ring with harmonies as acclaimed singer-songwriter Jennifer Kimball performs songs from her new album, Avocet, at 7:00 p.m.
Since her departure from the seminal, 90s folk-pop duo, The Story, which she formed with her college friend Jonatha Brooke, Kimball has forged an unconventional career path. With the March 3rd release of Avocet, she has proved once again that the wait was well worth it. A formidable songwriter and consummate performer, Kimball returns with a stellar collection of songs and a quiver full of accolades.
Avocet is Kimball’s third LP, and her first album of original material since 2006’s Oh Hear Us, her second record and the follow up to her debut solo record Veering from the Wave (PolyGram, 1998). The songs on Avocet developed over a decade during which Kimball lost her mother, had a son, earned a degree in landscape design and had pretty much hung up her touring shoes.
Kimball can be found on stage with any number of different artists spanning a range of musical genres. She has recorded harmony vocals on over 60 albums. Avocet began as a surprise birthday recording session at Q Division in Somerville, MA, where four tunes were recorded with new and old friends. The album then took shape under the direction of Alec Spiegelman, who worked with Kimball for the first time in that surprise session. “I’m really excited about this work,” she says of the new album. “It doesn’t sound like anything I’ve done before.”
CLICK Music draws crowds to its intimate performance space for up-close experiences with local artists who are given free reign to experiment with their music making. The series is curated by Northampton-based musician and producer Anand Nayak and sponsored in part by Downtown Sounds. Concerts are held at CLICK Workspace, 9 ½ Market Street, Northampton.
Tickets are available in advance for $12 via Eventbrite (service fees apply), and will be available at the door for $15 cash. Complete information and tickets are available at http://clickworkspace.org/events.
