FALL 2019 Artists in Residence Sofia Engelman + Em Papineau present INSTANT SAVIORS (how stars are made//revival) as a culmination of their residency at SCDT.

From Sofia and Em: INSTANT SAVIORS is full on dyke partnering. It is impossible to do it right. In our work, our relationship provides a foundation of trust, support, and knowing which enables us to dance at the edge of our typical boundaries. We make dances that are entirely specific to who we are, our bodies, and our relationship. It is queer evidence. It hopes to pave a four lane highway toward a future of clunky partnering, alternative representations of beauty, non-linearity, revealed structures, and serious messes. This work is both personal and universal. It affects.

About the artists:
Em Papineau and Sofia Engelman are dance artists based in New England. Their first collaborative work, Where the air is light and clear, was presented at the National College Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Since then, they have held artistic residencies at The Living Room, Ponderosa, the Dance Complex, and School for Contemporary Dance and Thought. The pair have performed iterations of their recent project, INSTANT SAVIORS (just add water), at Movement Research at the Judson Church, FRESH Festival, EstroGenius Festival at the Kraine Theater, HUT at the School for Contemporary Dance and Thought, the Dance Complex, and AS220’s Providence Movement Festival. engelmanpapineaudance.com
